Championing women through the arts

The National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA), located in Washington, DC, advocates for better representation of women artists and serves as a vital center for thought leadership, community engagement, and social change. NMWA addresses the gender imbalance in the presentation of art by bringing to light important women artists of the past while promoting great women artists working today.

The New York Committee of NMWA is part of a network of 27 committees throughout the US and World. The New York Committee is a volunteer organization that supports and extends the goals of NMWA. The Committee conducts local programs designed to further membership, development, fundraising, educational and exhibition objectives of NMWA, thereby broadening NMWA’s base of support throughout the world and allowing NMWA to be a truly national and international institution.

New York Armory Tour – Friday, September 5, 2025
Place: Pier 92 & 94:  711 12th Avenue, NYC

The flagship kick-off for the New York art season, Armory has been a feature of the art scene since its inception in 1913. This year there are three special curated sections and over 200 galleries drawn from across the globe.  We are offering a unique tour that will focus on galleries showing women – either as solo shows or as the majority of the booth.  Our tour will be led by Emily M. Sussman, art advisor and NYC NMWA committee member.  The tour will cover approximately 10 different galleries – including introductions to smaller galleries that may be new to you.
After our tour (approximately 1 – 1.25 hours) we’ll meet for a self-treat drink.

Tour Costs: Members: $50; Non-Members - $75.  Your ticket includes VIP access passes to the Fair that grants access for the entire weekend.

Join us at Wave Hill, 28 acres of gardens perched above the Hudson, where we will meet artist Sara Jiminez at the Glyndor Gallery for her exhibition, Folding Field, an outdoor installation on the grounds. Jiminez is a Filipinx-Canadian artist, who works with installation, sculpture, collage and performance, to create visual works that allude to mythical environments.  Her work is part of the permanent collection of the Ford Foundation for Social Justice, and has been displayed at the Morgan Lehman Gallery, El Museo del Barrio and the Brooklyn Museum, among others.
